Abstract
Na podstawie rejestracji zmian w potencjale i wykorzystaniu hoteli w Łodzi w okresie 1990–2014 podjęto próbę udzielenia odpowiedzi na pytanie: czy wzrost liczby i pojemności hoteli spowodował analogiczny wzrost ich wykorzystania przez turystów? Odpowiedź oparto na porównaniu dynamiki wzrostu zasobów (wyrażonych liczbą miejsc noclegowych) i uzyskanych efektów (określonych liczbą turystów korzystających z hoteli i udzielonych im noclegów oraz wskaźników pochodnych). Występujące relacje pomiędzy dynamiką wzrostu zasobów i dynamiką ich wykorzystania zidentyfikowano na podstawie wskaźników indeksowych i wzorcowych układów nierówności (standard systems of inequalities). Uzyskane wyniki wskazały dwa okresy w rozwoju hoteli w Łodzi po 1989 r. Pierwszy, charakteryzował się początkowo stagnacją a następnie powolnym wzrostem zarówno potencjału noclegowego jak i jego wykorzystaniem. Inwestycje koncentrowały się na utrzymaniu posiadanych zasobów i polepszeniu ich standardu. Natomiast w drugim, od połowy pierwszej dekady XXI w., zanotowano wyraźnie przyspieszony wzrost tak po stronie zasobów jak i ich wykorzystania. W podjętych inwestycjach skupiono się na powiększeniu wielkości zasobów w sektorze hoteli. Stąd też bezwzględna wielkość poziomu wykorzystania hoteli w Łodzi była funkcją wzrostu ich potencjału. Obłożenie łóżek w hotelach Łodzi w 1990 r. wynosiło 37,5% a w 2014 r. tylko 33,1%. Zaledwie w kilku latach analizowanego okresu notowano wyższą dynamikę wzrostu wykorzystania hoteli aniżeli przyrostu miejsc noclegowych. Zaobserwowano też wyższą dynamikę wzrostu potencjału hoteli 4- i 1- gwiazdkowych i ich wykorzystania, natomiast niższą w hotelach 3- i 2-gwiazdkowych. Skutkiem tego jest wyraźna przewaga najwyższej i najniższej kategorii hoteli w Łodzi.By recording changes in the potential and utilization of hotels in Łódź in the period 1990–2014, we attempt to answer the question whether an increase in the number and capacity of hotels results in the corresponding increase in the utilization of the hotels by tourists. The answer relies on a comparison of the dynamics of an increase in resources (these are expressed by the number of bed places) and obtained effects (these are determined by the number of tourists using hotels and overnight stays offered, and by some derivative indicators). The relationships occurring between the dynamics of an increase in resources and the utilization of these resources have been detected on the basis of index indicators and standard systems of inequalities. The results have indicated two periods of the development of hotels in Łódź after 1989. The first period was characterized by an initial stagnation and following increase in both the potential of accommodation and the utilization of bed places. The investments were concentrated on the maintenance of existing resources and on an improvement in the standard of these resources. In the second period, from the half of the first decade of the 21st century, a remarkably accelerated growth in both the resources and their utilization was noticed. The investments towards an increase in the size of resources for hotels were made. Thus, the absolute size of the utilization level of hotels in Łódź was a function of potential growth for the hotels. The occupancy rate of bed places for hotels in Łódź in 1990 amounted to 37.5%, while in 2014 it was only 33.1%. Merely for several years of the analyzed period there was a higher dynamics of the growth of hotel utilization than the increase of bed-places. One could also observe an enhanced dynamics of potential growth for four- and one-star hotels and their utilization, whereas a decreased dynamics was detected for three- and two-star hotels. In consequence, a clear advantage of the highest and lowest categories of hotels occurred for accommodation facilities in Łódź and their utilization.
