Abstract
The New Silk Road project means more than just investments facilitating trade in goods. It means also a way for China to become independent of US-dominated maritime trade. In modern history, no country has succeeded in offsetting the maritime domination so far. Will China be the first country to successfully implement the theories of Halford John Mackinder and Nicolas Spykman?
